The Flying Buttresses will teach you how to safely make working miniature, water-powered 'hydraulic pistons' from easily found materials without needing to “shell out”. They will then demonstrate how these can be used to move a tortoise puppet that can turn from side to side, slide its head in and out of its shell and open its mouth.

Inspired by the Toad from Norwich Puppet Theatre’s Thumbelina, learn how to make your own moving mouth paper puppet. All you’ll need is some A4 paper (preferably green - but you can always add colour to white), some scissors, sellotape and a pen. A simple design which can be used to make all sorts of characters for your own puppet play at home.

Two Months of FREE Puppetry Online - Beverley Puppet Festival 2020

Throughout the 2020 online festival, care home residents in Beverley will be taking part in a remotely created pilot project by Hull-based Anglo-Indonesian puppet company Indigo Moon Theatre. Thanks to the dedication of care home workers Elaine at Figham House, Jimmy & Amber at New House, and Tracey & Emma at Beverley Grange, residents are having a go at shadow theatre using pre-prepared kits, a video tutorial and messages from outside.

If you have friends or relatives living in New House, Figham House or Beverley Grange, we’d love to hear from you (especially if you Skype/Zoom)! More places may also join the fun and we’re looking forward to seeing video clips of everyone’s shadow theatre work, whether that’s a simple dance cast onto the wall, a singing puppet, or a story of choice to share with family and friends outside!
